Bamberg Old Town Hall

The old town hall of Bamberg is definitely one of the most unusual in Germany. Have you seen many town halls built in the middle of a river? I didn't! Just this one that sits in the middle of the river Regnitz, connected to its banks by two bridges. Believe it or not, there is a reason why the town hall is located so strangely. You see, in the Middle Ages, Bamberg was divided into the bishop's half and the citizens' half. There were many debates on which half the town hall should be built. Unable to come to any compromise, the people of Bamberg just built in on neither half - in the middle of the river!
