The Square, Shrewsbury

Shrewsbury, in spite of its relatively small size, has a lot of connections to important personalities. For instance, it was a regiment from Shrewsbury that guarded defeated Napoleon on St Helena - in fact, a locket of his hair is still kept in the town museum. But by far the most famous resident of the town is Charles Darwin, who was born and brought up there - a statue of him stands in front of the old building of Shrewsbury School, which he attended, now turned into a library.
